Revere was first known as Rumney Marsh; and in 1634, it was annexed to Boston, which had received its name only four years before in 1630. Previous to this, in 1632, the neck of land between Powder Horn Hill and Pullen Point (Winthrop) was annexed to Boston; and in 1634, Winnisimmet (Chelsea) was annexed, all by order of the Gerneral Court. In 1739, Winnisimmet, Rumney Marsh, and Pullen point were set off from Boston and established as the town of Chelsea; but in 1841, a part known as the Panhandle, was annexed to Saugus. Rumney Marsh and Pullen Point in 1846, were set off from Chelsea and incorporated as the town of North Chelsea; and again, and in 1852, Pullen Point was set off from North Chelsea as the town Winthrop. North Chelsea adopted the name of Revere on March 24, 1871.
